We have critiqued our home projects! I am not especially proud of mine, though I do like how I used different media instead of sticking to solely paint of canvas. However, my color theory on this piece wasn't up to the mark and the entire piece looked a little awkward. For my next work, I think I'm going to change things up a little bit with wood and oil paints.
We have critiqued our pieces, and the general consensus on mine is that it is successful. It has very strong content and composition, though there was some controversy regarding whether nonobjective art is the best way to communicate statistics. Personally, I believe that the work targets a broader audience, since it work with facts and meaning. However, in the future, I would like to add more limits to my work regarding statistics about a certain issue and force myself to work within those parameters.
I have started my home project, and I am focusing on the gender imbalance in the medical field once again. This piece deals with the index of dissimilarity in the different departments of the field, which stands at 25%. This means that a quarter of the people in the medical field must change their specialties (i.e. from pediatric oncology to orthopedic surgery) in order to create a gender balance throughout the medical field. |
