I am completely done with my place project and I have turned it in. My idea for the roads worked out really well, but I wish I had spent more time on the buildings. While the roads had texture, the buildings looked flat and a little out of place.
I am still working on my place project. I have decided to create an aerial view of a portion of Rome that includes the colosseum. There will be three main structures painted on with the roads created with a technique I came up with in eight grade. I will layer on white acrylic paint until there is texture. Then, I will dab on black ink with a piece of paper towel. Once it dries, I will use sandpaper to grate away some of the ink, so the white paint underneath shows through.
In class, we are still working with sculpture techniques like tape-casting and working with plaster. At home, I have come up with an idea for my place project - I am still working with wood, but my final product will not be sculpture. I want to paint/draw and use mixed media to create an aerial view of a place (or at least a portion of it) on wood.
In class, we have continued our discussion on the place project and have laid down more ground rules for it. Also, Coach has formally introduced us to sculpture.
