I have figured out what I'm going to do! I'm focusing on presentation versus content and how we perceive things based on these two aspects. The actual object I'll be painting is Baby Bell cheese. Most people, including me, don't particularly enjoy the cheese itself. The entertaining part of Baby Bell cheese is the wax that you unwrap and mold into different shapes while disregarding the cheese. So, I'm using molten wax to paint the wax of Baby Bell cheese. The painting will be divided into three parts: one of the cheese in wax with the wrapper, the second with the cheese in just the red wax, and the final with only the cheese.
So, encaustic is a little more trouble than I though it would be. Getting used to the medium takes a little more time and I have to work on my piece outside because of the toxic fumes. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing with my piece so far, but I have the base coat down.
Coach showed us encaustic this week. It basically consists of painting with molten wax, and its rather toxic. I like working with a new medium, so I think I'm going to use encaustic on my new piece.
I have finished my piece and documented it! I enjoyed working in such a large scale, but the time constraint and the big expanse of wood prevented me from paying as much attention to detail as I would like. Next time, I want to work smaller.
