I have once again changed my project. I have decided to create a wooden chess board instead of one made of plaster. I have painted one side white and the other entirely black. Also, I sanded the backs of the pieces and painted them black or white. I came with a position and will place the white pieces on the black side of the board and the black pieces on the white side of the board, which will create contrast. Next week, I will glue the pieces down on the board and find a way to hang the entire project.
The chess pieces are taking much too long, so I have modified my final project. Instead of sticking the two halves of the pieces together, I will leave them as is and glue them onto the chess board. That way, I will save time making the pieces and I won't have to glue them together and fill in the cracks.
I have started working on the plaster pieces. I am making pressing real chess pieces halfway into clay and pouring plaster into it. Once the plaster dries, I remove the two halves and glue them back to back to create one chess piece.
