I've decided to work a little differently for my next piece. I want to use clay since I haven't gotten a chance to do anything with it since Art II with clay tiles and bowls. I really enjoyed making the bowls on the wheel, but I wanted to do something more free-form and abstract this time around.
The critique went really well! They really liked how I left some of the wood completely plain and then some of with just a translucent overcoat - I really like the transparency of the piece. I didn't really like the colors, but my group really responded to them. We all agreed that the overlapping of the textures was something that I should continue to explore.
I'm trying to finish my piece in time for the critique. However, I'm not very pleased with it - it seems very plain and rather boring. Encaustic took a lot more time than I anticipated, so my final piece won't be ready in time. Instead, I'm going to make a piece over the weekend for the critique next week and continue with encaustic at a later time.
