I first came across Linda Freuh when I was looking at encaustics - she is the 2016 recipient of the International Encaustic Artists (IEA) Emerging Artist Grant for her blue and orange piece above. Freuh trained as a sculptor at the California College of Arts and Crafts, so she works a lot with gesture. She is currently working with encaustic and adds other materials to her work for more interesting textures. Freuh states that her goal is "to set a mood, express a feeling, evoke an emotion - and for me the mechanism is color". I really like her focus on these two elements and I hope to do more with color and texture in my own pieces.
