Karl Benjamin
Stage II (1958)
127 x 178 cm (50 x 70 inches)
Oil on canvas
Karl Benjamin is the definition of an "out of the blue" artist. He wasn't interested in art until he was forced to integrate art class into his lessons as a teacher in elementary school. Mr. Benjamin banned his students from drawing anything realistic, which eventually led to his fascination of abstract art. Many of his most famous hard-edge abstract work is from after he turned 50 years old. The artist works on a whim and many of his pieces have color schemes based on his daughter picking random samples out of a jar. I would really like to do a project with such spontaneous choices.
