I first heard about Banksy when I took art in eight grade and we were learning about juxtaposition. I enjoyed looking at his work, which focuses on making statements about politics or societal norms mainly through graffiti, although he has made many sculptures.
These three pictures are juxtaposed with words as the, or one of the, main components. They are ironic and make a point, while still visually appealing. I believe using words or phrases in my own work will help me get a point across better than just pictures.
Here is another set of pieces, while made by Banksy, are different from his other works. These are of windows to other worlds painted realistically on boring gray fences. The works show that there are many possibilities if we just look further than what is apparent. I especially like the middle piece, where a man is pulling away a board as if it were a curtain barring us from looking beyond the fence.
