It's week four of senior year and Art V and I am starting on my first project of the year. We went by Plaza last week where I got a black 24"x36" canvas. Not quite sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but here are my process shots:
I'm working on a much larger scale piece this time around. I want to get used to working big before I attempt another clay and canvas piece.
My piece is done! We had our critique and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. There is a bit of a disconnect between the clay pieces and the canvas that they're placed on, but I think that can be fixed now that I know what colors the glazes will turn out to be.
I decided that the clay pieces need a place to sit. I cut out a piece of canvas and just started painting!
The clay pieces have been fired and painted! It's been a while since I've worked with these glazes and there are quite a few colors that I've never heard of before, so let's see how it turns out!
I've decided to work a little differently for my next piece. I want to use clay since I haven't gotten a chance to do anything with it since Art II with clay tiles and bowls. I really enjoyed making the bowls on the wheel, but I wanted to do something more free-form and abstract this time around.
The critique went really well! They really liked how I left some of the wood completely plain and then some of with just a translucent overcoat - I really like the transparency of the piece. I didn't really like the colors, but my group really responded to them. We all agreed that the overlapping of the textures was something that I should continue to explore.
